Com 333- Social Media for Strategic Communications (Intro Blog)

My name is Maria Bentley. I am 22 years old, and this is my last semester at the University of Louisville. I will be graduating in May this year with my Bachelors in Communications. I am born and raised in Louisville, KY. I have lived in the west end (Portland Neighborhood) basically all my life. I have a very large family which includes my six younger siblings and my mom. I am the oldest, so more responsibilities have fallen in my hands. I have been helping my mom take care of my younger siblings since my dad passed away unexpectedly last year. Big word of advice, never take advantage of the time when you are with the people you love. There might be a chance you won’t get to say goodbye. Hug, love, and cherish the time with your loved ones.

I signed up for this class because I have been wanting to take it for a couple semesters now. I am glad I am taking it on my last semester because social media has changed in little time and now we have another platform to look at (tik-tok). I am also glad I signed up for this course because I help post on our social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, and snapchat) at my current job at Summmitmedia Louisville Radio. Where we have four local radio stations which are Q103.1, 106.9 PLAY, 103.9 The Groove, and 107.7 The Eagle. I am the promotions assistant and help with so many things between staffing/working/setting up events, concerts, and remotes and working with our social media to promote ourselves and the clients that we work with.

My goal for after graduation is to be able to get a full time position with working in promotions or to get a position as a radio broadcaster. I have been dreaming of being a radio broadcaster since I was in middle school. I got a internship at Summitmedia in 2017, as soon as my internship was over they hired me on and kept me. I have been working my way up and trying to get all the experience I can get. I have not taken any marketing courses but I have had a little experience hanging out with the salespeople in my building. So advertising and public relations will always be relevant where I am working, or where I plan to work with. This class will help me with some goals I wanted to achieve, because it helps me get prepared and learn what I don’t know about social media. I have never been on twitter or tic toc, so learning these social media platforms will help me tremendously as well. For this blog, I have never created one before so I hope I can learn more as I go and keep it even after this semester.
